Since 2010, it has been known as Oracle Solaris after acquisition by the Oracle company. It has been praised for creating many innovative features such as Time Slider, DTrace and ZFS.

Solaris is particularly well known for the following features:

  • Scalability: If you move to a larger processor, applications should run faster.
  • Security: Solaris offers security features included in the package including Kerberos, AMI, IPSec and smart cards.
  • Availability: Special features make it easier to fix problems or add new capabilities without having to restart the system. It can also be monitored, controlled from a remote console, and upgraded.
  • Build Quality: Solaris is built for network computing, thanks to being part of the first and most successful web server systems in history.

Solaris is utilised by Linux Administrators because of all its useful features.
