Before the current version, SAP PI was known as SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI).
SAP refers to PI as an integration broker as it brings together systems with varying requirements regarding protocols, format and connectivity. They also say that PI reduces the total cost of ownership by providing common ground for different interfaces. One of the main components of SAP PI is the SAP Integration Server, which allows for the interaction between operating systems and applications across internal and external networked computer systems.
SAP PI will be used by a number of IT professionals, including those within Business Analyst jobs.
