Firstly, Linux is used as the backend operating system, Apache is the web
server, whilst MySQL is the relational database management system and PHP is the object-oriented scripting language (however, Perl or Python can be used in its place).

IT professionals who use this solution stack do not necessarily have to use Linux as its operating system, Windows can be used in its place and is often referred to as WAMP, alternatively Macintosh systems (MAMP) and Solaris systems (SAMP) can be used. However, LAMP is the most common version and is considered relatively easy to use, therefore many IT professionals will be able to use this solution stack- particularly if they are in Website Development roles.
