JEE is the abbreviation for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition, formerly referred to as the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE).
It is a computing platform used for advancement and deployment of an enterprise software and is developed under the Java Community Process. The first version of the JEE (formerly the J2EE version 1.2) was released in 1999.
The platform utilises the popular Java programming language and is part of the Java software platform group. Its design is largely based on modular components that run on an application server. It is credited as accentuating convention over configuration, with annotations for configuration useful for the IT professionals that use it. The clever platform can also allow the end-user to override annotations or differ from the platform defaults by utilising XML.
