Java is one of the most renowned programming languages in the world. It is used within the distributed environment of the internet and smartphone applications, amongst other things. However, it was first designed with small, appliance-sized and interconnected devices that were able to connect with each other in mind.
The first edition of Java was released in 1996, under the name of Oak. With trademarks concerns, it was repackaged under the Java branding in the following year.
It was designed with the look and feel of the C++ language; however, it is a much simpler language that applies an object-oriented programming model. The programming language can be used to create applications that can be run on one computer, or alternatively distributed over a number of servers and to a number of clients. Alternatively, the language can be used for an applet used as part of web pages.
All IT professionals will be aware of this popular programming language, and most will utilise this within their work.
