IoT is the connection of internet-enabled devices and people, it will include almost every digital device, in every industry. Devices can be anything from washing machines, cars, central heating, medical equipment to aircrafts.
Devices will have access to real-time data and will be able to inform the user of any relevant intelligence or updates related to the function or process.
One of the earliest developments within IoT is within the energy sector. Central heating can be controlled remotely; this includes the ability to turn it on or off and alter the temperature from devices such as a phone, tablet or computer.
All IT professionals will be aware of IoT, and some may even utilise it within their work.
