The Android OS is a result of the connection of business giants such as Google, HTC, Samsung and Dell in 2007, who are part of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA). The OHA is an alliance between businesses in the technology sector to share hardware and software to advance open sourcing for mobile phones.

Android OS consists of Java applications and core libraries, under a Java-based framework, utilising a GUI, web browser and end-user applications that can be selected depending on suitability to the customer. Mobile Developers must have a thorough understanding of Android, and the Java programming language it uses.
