AIX software stands for Advanced Interactive eXecutive and is a series of
proprietary Unix operating systems. It is developed and sold by computing
giants IBM, and although originally purpose-built for a specific system, AIX
now supports or has supported a wide variety of hardware platforms. This
includes the IBM RS/6000 series, POWER and PowerPC-based systems, IBM
System I and the Apple Network Server.
