Technical Writer
Department: Engineering Systems & Services
Reports to: Documentation Manager
Summary
My client are expanding their team and are seeking a Technical Writing to work on the development of our technical documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
- Develop high quality product documentation to agreed timescales. Materials include installation instructions, installation and configuration manuals, operator manuals, user manuals, online help, and product datasheets.
- Write for different audience levels including installation engineers, system operators, end-users, and sales teams
- Create content for new products, new features, compliance to standards, and fix documentation issues
- Learn new products and tools quickly
- Read technical specifications and translate complex concepts into easy to understand content
- Install new firmware and software builds and refer to build release notes to identify updates
- Track all changes and coordinate documentation reviews
- Produce documents in multiple formats
Education and/or Experience
- Understand the documentation lifecycle including planning, design, development, review, translation, production, and delivery
- Self-starter, motivated, and enthusiastic
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Problem-solving skills
- Team player
- Knowledge of structured authoring and concepts such as topics, re-use, and fragments
- Experience of writing for translation
- Familiarity with source control and content management tools
Education and/or Experience (continued)
- Ability to develop technical documentation for hardware, embedded, communications, and software products
- Familiarity with client-server technologies & Web solutions
- Familiar with Adobe Illustrator
- Familiar with MadCap Flare
Competences
- Third level qualification in technical communications, computer science, or a related area
- Minimum of 3 years technical writing experience in an R&D environment
- Fluent English speaker with excellent written English
- Familiarity with documentation of electronic hardware would be advantageous
- Experienced in the following tools: Madcap Flare, Madcap Lingo, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, Snagit
- Experience developing documents in a single-source and structured authoring environment (DITA, XML) is preferable
Work Environment & Requirements
- Employee will work primarily in an office environment.
- Some travel and fieldwork potentially including international travel.
