Job Description

My Dublin based client is currently recruiting a Junior Support Engineer to support their Moodle VLE Environment.

My client is looking for a highly motivated individual to provide support to the IT Department within their organisation with specific responsibility for the Moodle VLE. The successful candidate will have considerable experience of VLE Site administration. You will have specific responsibility for the support, maintenance, and administration of the Moodle VLE.

The job holder is typically responsible for:

  • Providing technical support for queries in relation to Moodle from teachers and administrators.
  • Providing day to day issue resolution and support to key stakeholders.
  • Regulating, providing guidance and encouraging a consistent style and course structure on course pages.
  • Finding creative solutions for non-standard Moodle queries from teachers and administrators.
  • Providing guidance on best practice in Moodle site/course structure in relation to online learning
  • Staying current with technical trends and research improvements for the Moodle site.

Typical work activities include:

  • Being the point of contact for course administrators and teachers for queries for all Moodle courses/accounts/modules/plugins/tools.
  • User Management, including but not limited to; user accounts: bulk create users, change passwords, customize information, create and sync cohorts.
  • Assist and guide course administrators with annual rollovers e.g. resetting course pages, creating cohorts, syncing cohorts with courses and groups.
  • Management of courses, including but not limited to; updating course settings, creating courses, enrolling users and/or adding enrolment methods, backups, restores, imports, and category management.
  • Assist and guide course administrators with annual rollovers e.g. resetting course pages, creating cohorts, syncing cohorts with courses and groups.
  • Site management and maintenance.
  • Monitoring of system effectiveness in satisfying user needs.
  • Working with end user support services for roll-out, issue resolution and quality user experiences.
  • Consult, support and advise instructional designers and course developers about technical concerns for all courses.
  • Assist projects with future upgrades and backups to Moodle contents.
  • Participating in special projects as needed.
  • Liaising with the Moodle vendor as required.

What you bring to this role

  • At least two years’ experience in development and administration of a Moodle LMS.
  • Working knowledge of relational database concepts, client-server concepts, systems security, authentication systems, disaster recovery, and service life cycles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including empathy with end-users of all technical skill levels.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Patience and calmness in stressful situations.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Excellent problem solving & multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Highly ‘computer literate’.
  • A good grasp of HTML and CSS is desirable.
