Backend Data Engineer (Contract)

My Dublin based client is looking for a Backend Data Engineer to join their team for a contract position to strengthen their Business Intelligence capabilities. In addition to working with current tooling, the client have undertaken an ambitious global digitalisation journey and this role will play a key part in implementing next-generation tools in Ireland.

Job Responsibilities

• Play lead role in preparation and deployment of new company proprietary system to the market.
• Play lead role onboarding the Irish business unit to the new global data and BI tooling:
  • ETL/ELT (Matillion)
  • Data Warehouse (Snowflake)
  • Data Virtualisation (Denodo)
  • Reporting/BI (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Data Lineage (Collibra)
  • Quality Assurance (Trillium)

Experience Required

• Third-level degree, including a strong computing/mathematical/statistical element;
• Extensive experience harnessing operational/transactional relational databases for BI purposes;
• Extensive experience performing complex data analysis and report development;
• Proven experience with ETL/ELT tools (ideally Matillion;
• Proven experience of data warehousing concepts and tools (ideally Snowflake);
• Knowledge of data virtualisation concepts and tools (ideally Denodo;
• Extensive experience with data visualization tools (ideally Power BI, Tableau, BO, Qlik;
• Great core design skills, ability to establish visual hierarchy, layout, typography, colour;
• Knowledge of data lineage concepts and tools (ideally Collibra);
• Knowledge of data quality assurance tools (ideally Trillium);
• Aptitude to learn quickly and apply knowledge across different contexts;
• Highly motivated with strong work ethic;
• Proven ability to work in a self-directed manner to deliver projects;
• Proven ability to lead BI projects;
• Demonstrated interpersonal, influencing, collaboration and listening skills, including ability to interact with business colleagues in plain English, and IT colleagues in precise technical terms;
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
• Experience working with Agile methods;
• Experience using Jira and Confluence; and
• Proficient in the Microsoft 365 suite.
