My client has an exciting opportunity for an Application Support Engineer to join their IT team on a permanent basis.

Job Responsibilities

My client has an exciting opportunity for an Application Support Engineer to join their IT team. You will be the driving force behind our Applications Operations team, working closely with their Application Development, Infrastructure and Platforms teams to implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring solutions in the enterprise environment, helping to triage, troubleshoot and resolve production incidents as well as focusing on preventive and proactive maintenance of the application stack.

Experience Required

  • 3-5+ years’ experience supporting enterprise technology environments
  • Demonstrated experience with performance management and monitoring tools (the client is currently using Splunk, Zabbix, Oracle Enterprise Manager and Monitis, however the stack is likely to expand in the future)
  • Experience with JAVA programing debugging and troubleshooting
  • Able to interpret error messages from OS, Middleware stacks, Performance Management tools and applications to identify root cause and to restore service
  • Ability to independently triage highly complex system and application incidents
  • Able to create concise and accurate technical documentation
  • Experience with Linux, Windows, SSH and scripting skills

Essential and Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Enterprise Service Bus and messaging technologies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse corporate environment.
  • Understanding typical applications design and dependencies including good understanding of the underlying database and infrastructure technologies
  • Understanding of complex processes and dataflows
  • Experience with system analysis and design, development, and testing
  • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills
  • Experience with HTTP, TCP/IP, SNMP and DNS
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of server, storage, network, server virtualization & public cloud technologies (especially Microsoft Azure Paas/SaaS)
  • Ability to understand and operationally manage enterprise scheduling tools (e.g. JAMS)
  • Ability to evaluate and influence new application requirements for operations best practices
  • Creation and maintenance of a viable and relevant knowledge base (Confluence)
  • Comfortable presenting issues to management as well as peers, both written and verbally in a concise fashion

Educational Requirements

  • 3rd level degree.
  • ITIL V3 Foundation Certification (familiarity with change management, release management, event, incident management and problem management)
