Systems Analysts use a number of techniques to design computer systems, including data modelling, which creates rules for the computer to follow when processing data, which allows analysts to make faster decisions.
Analysts calculate the requirements for how much memory and speed the computer system will need. During this process, they create a set of plans for programmers or engineers to use when building the system. Analysts will then work with these people to solve problems that arise after the initial system is set up and most analysts will do some programming in the course of their work.
Most computer system analysts will specialise in a certain type of computer system that is specific to the area they work in, such as engineering or financial computer systems. As part of this, they will work closely with the business leaders to help the IT team understand how the computer systems can best serve the organisation.
