Program Managers are responsible for overseeing the goals and development of the programs being created by a programming team within an organisation.
One of the main tasks for Program Managers is the design of the program, but they are also in charge of managing the programming team and assigning tasks within the project, in addition to motivating the programming team to ensure continuous focus is maintained throughout the project.
Program Managers will also consult with the project leader about the development of the program in question, as well as the assignment of budget and tasks which they will then report back to their team. Program Managers must have extensive experience and expertise, as well as great communication skills, so that they can report the risks, issues, requirements, designs and solutions that arise during the project to the Project Management Office (PMO). Program Managers can all be categorised by their exceptional leadership, in addition to superb interpersonal and communication skills.
