Expectations from a Linux Administrator are wide ranging and will vary depending on the organisation’s size and aims. Candidates will need a comprehensive experience of working with the Linux OS, including an extensive knowledge of networking, servers, hardware and software. The role requires the configuration of networks using various tools, backing up systems and making copies. Issues are solved remotely and through the OS. Linux Administrators require excellent troubleshooting skills, experience with JavaScript and the ability to understand complex systems.

Linux Administrators must be cooperative team members with effective communication and problem-solving skills. As it can be difficult to get to the root of an issue, it requires determination and a can-do attitude.
