A Learning Technologist is a person who is actively involved in managing, supporting, researching and enabling learning with the use of learning technology. Learning technology itself is the range of technologies that can be used to support teaching, learning and assessment.
Essentially, it is a role that applies technology to facilitate learning, but the role can encompass a variety of tasks. A Learning Technologist will require expertise in the field being taught, as well as an understanding of how people learn.
The Learning Technologist should have a broad range of knowledge regarding up to date technologies, including (but not limited to):
A successful Learning Technologist would ideally have some appreciation and understanding of the educational process. They can come from varied backgrounds, such as Web Developers who have found a niche in education, or educators who have incorporated technology into their teachings.
