Infrastructure Managers (IM) define existing requirements and specifications to identify areas for improvement that is appropriate for each activity, with the aim of refining the process and procedure to improve operation. The role includes managing procurement of systems and liaising with suppliers to ensure best value, service and product. The task of installing and configuring new IT systems and equipment is required, and creating and implementing documentation to support staff with procedures and duties to compliment the use of the systems. IM’s need a great understanding and vocabulary of the technical language, with the ability to communicate issues and resolutions to individuals or departments with a limited technical vocabulary at all levels of an organisation. The skills and experience required include the management of people and workload, budgeting, communication and an in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of servers, networks, software and hardware.
