Field Engineers are responsible for providing software and hardware technical support and tutorage. The ability to work with different networking, operating and communications systems are a necessity.
The role of Field Engineer requires individuals to install new IT systems and the equipment required for its operation, as well as providing users with usage guidance. Field Engineers are also required to update and repair existing IT systems, detecting faults and repairing and maintaining the systems for optimum efficiency. Faults must be analysed, reported and tracked for future prevention.
Field engineers are individuals with a comprehensive vocabulary of technical language and skills in Microsoft products, system networking and connectivity. In this role, tasks are completed face-to-face, over the phone or remotely, due to this, excellent communication skills in both written and verbal is required. Field Engineers must be responsive and manage the needs of clients and colleagues. The role demands a team player with an analytical mind, high attention to detail and self-motivation. Depending on the organisation size, this role could be in-house assisting colleagues, or at client’s premises. Field Engineers need to be adaptable to regularly changing work places and the ability to drive to the different locations is an advantage.
