DevOps is the practice of operations and development engineers who participate together to complete a project. DevOps does not fall into one particular job role, but instead, several professionals from a variety different backgrounds.

For instance, a DevOps Engineer may start as a Software Developer that oversees aspects of operations. Equally, a DevOps Engineer may move up from a System Administrator role because he or she has gained knowledge about coding, scripting, integration and testing. There can be some overlap between DevOps and SysOps engineering roles depending on the individual organisation and its technical needs, but it’s the DevOps Engineer whose responsibilities include changing business processes as needed to solve organisational problems and improve business results. A DevOps Engineer will work with any development staff within an organisation to assist with coding and scripting that is needed to connect elements of code, such as software or data management tools.
