Business Intelligence Consultants can gather the data they need through several ways, from mining a company’s computer data through software to looking at the data from competitors. The main goal is to identify where the company stands within the industry, recognising where they can improve and how to reduce costs. They will usually look at large chunks of data at a time and communicate past trends with consideration to current conditions to businesses.

To work in BI, you will usually need to use complex computer programs to mine data sources and locate trends, meaning applicants will need to be competent in using technology. To succeed within the role, you must be able to demonstrate advanced analytical skills to ensure you can determine what data trends mean for each business. Time management, problem-solving and communication skills are also of paramount importance to work effectively in Business Intelligence.
